Joan Rogers
Arlington Heights Community Concert Band

It has been a memorable year!

Thank you to all that support the band with your time or donations. Over the winter, the band was able to purchase a set of new timpani. The new timpani will really help the band’s sound and keep the quality of our performances moving forward. And they are really pretty!

The band was thrilled to be able to top off our indoor season with a guest soloist. Carrie Shafer, the 2nd trumpeter in the Houston Symphony performed the Trumpet Concerto by Alexander Arutunian with the band. It was an incredible opportunity for the members of the band to perform with an outstanding musician. And the audience loved it! We heard many audience members remark that it was a thoroughly enjoyable concert and they were glad they came out to hear us.

I want to personally thank all our audience and band members who donated to the Elk Grove Township Food Pantry during our concert Food Drive at our February concert. Approximately 200 pounds of food and non-perishable items was collected! Those in need will never know your name, but they will be forever grateful that they were able to receive some help when they needed it most.
We said goodbye to our conductor, Mark Hengesh, after our April concert. Mark is retiring and he will be missed. He took on the challenge of being our conductor and we are eternally grateful. What fun we’ve had. Good luck to Mark.

And on a very sad note, we lost one of our musicians and friends, Robin Meredith Kramer, to cancer. Although she was primarily a pianist, she joined our band as a mallet percussionist. She was truly one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. She will remain in our hearts forever.

Lastly, the band has begun the summer concert season under the baton of our new conductor, Mike Madonia. Mike brings years of experience teaching music to musicians of all ages. Please see his bio on the “About” page of our website. We are all excited to learn, grow and have fun with Mike.
I hope you will be able to stop and hear the band perform some fun, summer music.

Joan Rogers, President

We hope to see you at our next concert
